With Heaven On Top

Nachdem Zach Bryan erst im September vergangenen Jahres den Rekord für das größte zahlende Konzertpublikum in der Geschichte der USA gebrochen hat, haben nun sicherlich noch mehr als die 112.408 Fans, die sich im September im Michigan Stadium versammelten, einen Grund zur Freude. Denn der Country-Musiker legt seinen Hörer:innen mit seinem sechsten Album „With Heaven On Top“ ein Mammutwerk mit insgesamt 25 Liedern vor.
„With Heaven On Top“ ist außerdem mehr als nur irgendein Album, welches Jahre später in einer gefüllten Diskografie untergeht. Denn Zach hat nicht nur seine Texte selbst geschrieben, sondern auch selbst aufgenommen und produziert. So haben wir jetzt fürs neue Jahr ein kraftvolles Album, das sich soundtechnisch zwischen Americana à la Tom Petty und traditionellem Country bewegt.
Während der Intro-Song „Down, Down, Stream“ musikalisch noch nicht erahnen lässt, wie Zach Bryan sein neuestes Werk vertont, liefert uns der Musiker dann aber doch 24 Songs, die sich ganz und gar in Country-Sounds hüllen. „With Heaven On Top“ pendelt dabei mühelos zwischen treibenden, gitarrenlastigen Songs wie „Say Why“ und zurückhaltenden und ruhigen Momenten wie bei „DeAnn’s Denim“. Insgesamt bewegt sich Zach aber in warmen Klängen, die in gewisser Weise auch die Oklahoma-Country-Mentalität widerspiegeln. Denn die sechste Platte ist in keinem geringeren Ort als Tulsa, der zweitgrößten Stadt des US-Bundesstaats, entstanden. So darf auch die Mundharmonika nicht fehlen und hier und da lässt sich ein mehrstimmig begleitender Chor finden, wie auf „Santa Fe“. Geigen und Trompeten gesellen sich später auch noch dazu, wie der Track „South and Pine“ zeigt.
