Total Dive

Brown Horse, bestehend aus Sänger und Gitarrist Patrick Turner, Gitarrist Nyle Holihan, Emma Tovell an Bass und Lap-Steel-Gitarre sowie Keyboarder Rowan Braham, Ben Rodwell am Schlagzeug und Neve Cariad im Backgroundgesang, veröffentlichen diesen Monat ihr drittes Album. „Total Dive“ ist ein noch größeres, lauteres und härteres Alternative-Rock-Monster als sein Vorgänger. Zwar ist der rauere Stil von Neil Young noch immer hörbar, doch treten auch Einflüsse von Bands wie Jason Molina und Uncle Tupelo deutlich hervor. Songs wie „Heavy“ (einer von mehreren, die die Welt aus einem Auto heraus betrachten – „ein toter Fuchs am Straßenrand leuchtete seine Augen auf, als wir vorbeifuhren“) hätten auch auf einem Nirvana-Album gut gepasst.

Total Dive is a bigger, louder and harder alt-rock beast than its predecessor and, while the snarlier end of the Neil Young spectrum can still be heard, their influences, including Jason Molina and Uncle Tupelo, also surface, while the likes of Heavy (one of several seeing the world from a car – “dead fox on the roadside lit up its eyes as we passed by”) wouldn’t have been out of place on a Nirvana album.
