Slappers Bangers Certified Twangers Vol. 2

This record is a continuation of American Aquarium’s homage to that golden era of country music. Country music was on top of the world during the 90s and it is abundantly clear that BJ Barham has a soft spot for that honky-tonkin’ and good-timin’ Nashville sound. However, this is not a rypical cover album. This is not American Aquarium’s spin on 90s country where they try to take some kind of twisted artistic license with these old favorites and make them into some kind of art-house nouveau alt-indie bullshit. These are faithful recreations that carry the same spirit and attitude as the originals. These songs are being treated with respect and dignity. Don’t take that to sound like it is an album of imitations. Slappers, Bangers & Certified Twangers: Volume Two is simply an ode to a bygone era. I love that this record is heavy with songs that were originally performed by ladies and the lyrics have stayed the same. There’s no need to update them or change genders, just sing the songs.
