Und wieder ein neuer Typ am unendlich weiten Himmel über Texas! WILLIAM CLARK GREEN - ein Name wie aus dem Setzkasten für Countrymusik - heißt der Gute und, ja, er macht auch Country! Jene Sorte Country, die sich gerne mit Rock, Folk, Roots Music, viel Lokalkolorit und einer gewissen ländlichen Raubeinigkeit verbindet und die, obwohl durch und durch texanisch, oft in den kleinen, hipperen Studios in Nashville abseits der Hutträger-Industrie hergestellt wird. Rose Queen ist Green's drittes Album, aber bei aller Wertschätzung für sein Frühwerk, das erste richtig professionell durchdachte und das erste, das von wesentlich mehr als einer Handvoll Fans überregionale Beachtung findet. Und das Debüt auf Blue Rose!

Green, der heute in Lubbock lebt, ist in der Nähe von Tyler im Osten des Staates Texas, aufgewachsen. Bereits im zarten Alter von 13 war klar, was aus ihm mal werden sollte: ein erfolgreicher Texas Folk & Country-Musiker nach Art seiner großen Vorbilder Clark, Earle, Townes, Lovett, Crowell und dem von ihm besonders verehrten Willis Alan Ramsey! Mit 22, in 2008, hat er sein Debütalbum Dangerous Man vorgelegt, gefolgt von Misunderstood zwei Jahre später. Beide Scheiben sind geprägt von Talent und Aufbruchsstimmung, so hat er sämtliche Songs selbst verfasst und mit soliden Musikern kompetent aufgenommen. Aber der Schritt zu Rose Queen kommt denn doch einem Quantensprung gleich. Alle 11 Tracks stammen wieder aus seiner Feder, 4 davon jeweils in Zusammenarbeit mit den befreundeten Kollegen Kent Finlay, Brandon Adams, Kenneth O'Meara und Brian Keane. Und diesmal geht's ans Eingemachte: Persönliche Befindlichkeiten, Trennungsgeschichten und die Widrigkeiten des Everyday Life spiegeln sich in seinen Texten wieder, genauso wie Erinnerungen an seine Jugend in Tyler. Story Songs nennt man das, was Green hier bietet und dazu gehört mit 'She Likes The Beatles (And I Like The Stones)' auch ein echter "Saturday Night-Mitsing"-Gassenhauer, von dem die einschlägigen Texas Music-Internetsender wie KNBT & Co. gar nicht mehr lassen wollten - manch einer konnte das Stück wohl schon nicht mehr hören... Aber auf Rose Queen gibt es ja noch so viel mehr! Zum Beispiel den kompletten Gegenentwurf mit dem introspektiven Abschlusslied 'Welcome To The Family'. Mit dem Titeltrack als Eröffnung im Steve Earle-Stil und dem folgenden Country Rocker 'Remedy' setzt William Clark Green die Messlatte sehr hoch an. Schon früh wird klar, dass wir hier jemanden hören, der sich mit unwiderstehlichen Hooks und Refrains auskennt. Der mit seiner Band auch richtig Gitarrendruck erzeugen kann und gerne rockt - wie bei den sehr an Reckless Kelly erinnernden 'It's About Time' und 'Hangin' Around'. Als Ausgleich kommen aber auch die (Midtempo-) Balladen nicht zu kurz: Das kleine Roadmovie 'Drowning' passt in dieses Raster und das gut abgehangene 'Take Me Away'. Und sowieso 'What It Takes To Be Me', eine autobiografische Selbstreflektion, eindringlich interpretiert und herrlich mit sägender Slide Guitar umgarnt.

WCG (die in Red Dirt-Fachkreisen liebevoll verwendete Abkürzung) singt mit kerniger, attraktiv angerauter, sehr charaktervoller Stimme, die man unbedingt wiedererkennt und die einfach perfekt zu seiner Musik passt. Im klaren Sound (made in Nashville!) regieren abgesehen von der Stimme vor allem melodisch angerockte bis slidige elektrische Gitarren neben akustischen und Steel über einer eingespielten Rhythm Section mit Gitarrist Steven Marcus, Bassist Cameron Moreland und Drummer Jay Saldana (seine Touring Band, made in Texas!), dazu etwas Beiwerk, z.B. Singer/Songwriter-Kollege Brian Keane an den Tasten, Rob McNelley (Delbert McClinton) mit einer zweiten elektrischen Gitarre. Das Bluegrass-gefärbte 'Let's Go' wurde mit Fiddle und Mandoline garniert. Keane's Frau Rachel Loy hat die Nashville Sessions gewohnt ohrenfreundlich, warm und wie "analog" produziert.

Rose Queen ist ein überragendes Genre-Werk im Bereich zwischen Red Dirt und Texamericana mit vielen Attributen, die man schon so oft vergeben hat, und auch William Clark Green wird nicht als Erneuerer in die Texas Music-Geschichte eingehen. Aber die coole Art und hörbare Leidenschaft, mit der er an seine Stücke rangeht, das ist schon was ganz Besonderes!

With two critically esteemed album releases already under his belt, WILLIAM CLARK GREEN is back and this time it is getting personal. Give Green a pen and paper and he is a lyrical force to be reckoned with. On his critically acclaimed third release, Rose Queen, he is puts it all on the line and makes absolutely no apologies. "Songwriting is reality. People are scared to put reality on paper, but this is 10 times more reality than my past work," he explains bluntly. The past few years have been consumed with Green touring heavily in the booming Texas scene and persistently writing a plethora of songs that are pulled from true to life experiences. Green has adamantly pushed his boundaries as a writer revealing, "Songwriting is exactly what is in your heart, in my opinion, it is not about writing a hit. It is about revealing your heart and your feelings on the paper."

The music on Rose Queen ranges from the familiar Cajan flare he is known for on "Let's Go" to the highly reflective and introspective "Welcome to the Family." In the candidly honest lead single, "It's About Time," Will tackles the harsh reality that a significant relationship must end. He explains, "I think the new record will connect with a certain demographic of people who have been effected by something in their lives and therefore can identify with my stories."

Not only has Green raised the bar with his seasoned writing and musicianship, he also enlisted a team of powerhouses to mold his full package of artistry. Music industry veteran Rachel Loy was recruited to undertake producing the new record. Green declares, "I was sold on her in just 30 minutes. She installs confidence and challenges me to be better." Also, in the last year he signed with new management, 415 Entertainment, as well as landed a booking deal with Nashville's Paradigm Agency. For the first time, Green embraced the nature of co-writing and included 4 tracks of co-writes on the new album.

William Clark Green is definitely no stranger to the music scene; he knew at the ripe age of 13 that he would embrace his passion and work vigorously in order to make a name for himself. As a 7th grader with substantial ambition, he began receiving guitar lessons and spending free time with his cousin writing music and bouncing ideas off of one another. Green draws inspiration from his personal musical hero Willis Allan Ramsey, as well as his father who Green has fond memories of with a guitar in hand.

While attending college at Texas Tech University, Green played for a live audience whenever he could and steadily gained notoriety on the Texas music scene. He credits the Blue Light in Lubbock as his unofficial home, where he spent many nights honing on his craft and gaining a loyal army of followers.

Rose Queen has already marked a number of milestones for the young storyteller. The debut single, "It's About Time", was welcomed at radio with open arms and earned William's first Top Ten song on Texas Radio. The momentum did not stop there as his follow up single, "She Likes The Beatles," recently scored the #1 position on both the Texas Music Chart (TMC) and the Texas Regional Radio Report (TRRR) in seemingly the blink of an eye.

At this rate, the sky is the limit as everyone waits to see what William Clark Green has up his sleeve next.
