Der Titel des siebten Studioalbums der kalifornischen Punkrocker bezieht sich auf Mike Ness' doppelte musikalische Heimat. Der Songwriter und Sänger von Social Distortion huldigt auf "Hard Times And Nursery Rhymes" sowohl dem düsteren Amerika eines Hank Williams wie auch dem bluesigen Herumstolzieren der Rolling Stones etwa während der "Exile-On-Mainstreet"-Ära. While these twin pillars have always been behind Social Distortion's anthemic songs, on Hard Times and Nursery Rhymes they come roaring to the fore, in one of the hardest rocking, most soulful albums of Ness's career.
