The Gears EP

Stichwort: Americana Rock. In einer Zeit, in der Grenzlinien zwischen klassischem Country Rock der 70er Jahre, Alt.Americana, 90s No Depression Sound etc. verblassen und das Country-Genre stärker in die allgemeine Rock & Pop Music Einzug hält, wird es für junge Bands immer schwieriger, sich mit originellen, identifikationsreichen und nachhaltigen Beiträgen über dem Durchschnitt zu behaupten. Die SONS OF BILL aus Charlottesville, Virginia gehören seit einigen Jahren zur absoluten Créme dieser Gattung.

Nach dem traumhaften Debüt A Far Cry From Freedom von 2006 brachten sie mit One Town Away und Sirens mindestens zwei ebenbürtige Nachfolger auf den Markt, beide auf Blue Rose erschienen. Um die Wartezeit auf das nächste Album zu verkürzen und um die anstehende große Europatour im Februar/März 2014 zu promoten, veröffentlicht das Quintett um die Gebrüder James, Sam und Abe Wilson eine 7-Song-EP unter dem Titel The Gears EP. Sie enthält als Einstimmung zum neuen Full Length-Album Love & Logic drei brandneue Songs im typischen Sons Of Bill-Sound, produziert von ex-Wilco-Mitglied Ken Coomer ("Brand New Paradigm", "Road To Canaan" und "Bad Dancer"), zwei Live-Stücke ("Turn It Up" aus dem nur digital erhältlichen Album With Kerosene Instead und "Unknown Legend", eine Neil Young-Coverversion) sowie zwei bisher unveröffentlichte Acoustic-Versionen von "Santa Ana Winds" and "Radio Can't Rewind".

Keyword: Americana Rock. In a time when the lines between classic country, 70s rock, Alt.Americana and No Depression get blurred and at the same time commercial country is crossing over into rock & pop, it becomes increasingly difficult for a young band to stand out with original, identifiable, enduring material. SONS OF BILL from Charlottesville, Virginia manage to do so with ease.

After releasing the strong debut A Far Cry From Freedom in 2006, they put out two more at least equal albums, One Town Away and Sirens, both on Blue Rose.

To help pass the time until the new full length album is done and to promote the upcoming 5-week European tour in February/March 2014, the quintet, featuring the Wilson brothers James, Sam and Abe, is releasing a 7-song CD entitled The Gears EP. The 35 minutes running disc includes three brand new tracks from the forthcoming album Love & Logic, produced by ex-Wilco member Ken Coomer (“Brand New Paradigm”, “Road To Canaan” and “Bad Dancer”), two live songs (“Turn It Up” from the digital-only available album With Kerosene Instead and “Unknown Legend”, a Neil Young cover) plus the two acoustic tracks “Santa Ana Winds” and “Radio Can’t Rewind”.
