First Rose Of Spring

Nach seinem diesjährigen Grammy-Erfolg meldet sich Country-Star Willie Nelson mit „First Rose Of Spring“ am 03. Juli wieder zurück. Elf neue Studiosongs soll das neue Album beinhalten und dem Hörer intime Einblicke in die Gedanken- und Gefühlswelt des Künstlers gewähren.
Für die neue Platte hat sich Nelson einerseits wieder der Hilfe seines langjährigen Freunds und Produzenten Buddy Cannon bedient („Blue Star“, „Love Just Laughed“) und sich zugleich aufstrebende, sowie auch längst etablierte Songwriter ins Boot geholt. Darunter auch Chris Stapleton, der für ihn den Titel „Our Song“ komponiert hat.
Neben Eigenkompositionen von Nelson selbst finden sich auf dem Album auch einige Neuinterpretationen alt bekannter Countrysongs wieder, unter anderem Toby Keiths „Don’t Let The Old Man In“, Billy Joe Shavers „We Are The Cowboys“ und Pete Graves „Just Bummin‘ Around“.
Den Abschluss macht Nelson mit einer neuen Version des Chanson-Klassikers „Hier Encore“ (1964) von Charles Aznavours. Jener Titel, der schon Roy Clark zu einem seiner größten Hits („Yesterday When I Was Young“) verhalf.
Mit der schwermütigen Ballade besingt Nelson, wie schon viele vor ihm, die Schönheit und Vergänglichkeit des Lebens und unterstreicht damit noch einmal die Message von „First Rose Of Spring“.

First Rose Of Spring is a studio album from the time-defying legend who has won Grammys for the two albums before this (2019’s Ride Me Back Home won Best Solo Country Performance and 2018’s My Way won Best Traditional Pop Album). While his last few albums have focused on facing the reality of mortality and crying or laughing in its face, this one is focused much more on celebrating the now and embracing life, love and friends & family.
The album includes songs written by Willie and long time producer Buddy Cannon (“Blue Star,” “Love Just Laughed”) combined with songs written by Chris Stapleton and Toby Keith plus a handful of classic songs that Willie interprets his way (from the Billy Joe Shaver track “We Are The Cowboys” to the sublime closer, the Charles Azanavour classic “Hier Encore”), all performed with an amazing band of Nashville gunslingers. The first track is the title song and album opener “First Rose Of Spring,” penned by the songwriting team of Randy Houser, Allen Shamblin & Mark Beeson.
