At The Roadhouse

Die australische Indie-Folk-Rock-Band The Paper Kites veröffentlicht ihr mit Spannung erwartetes sechstes Album – At The Roadhouse. Der Song- und Produktionshintergrund begann, als die Band eine Raststätte im ländlichen Australien gründete und während der Arbeit an ihrem sechsten Album einen unangekündigten einmonatigen Aufenthalt in der kleinen viktorianischen Stadt Campbells Creek absolvierte. Die Atmosphäre des Live-Auftritts wird mit Pedal Steel und krächzendem Gesang und Harmonien nachgebildet. Der Liedtext erinnert an eine Romanze, die noch immer so lebendig ist wie eine blaue Flamme. „Wir hatten jahrelang darüber gesprochen“, erklärt Sam Bentley. „Wir fühlten uns von der Idee angezogen, irgendwo in einer Stadt zu bleiben und abends als Hausband zu spielen. Das Roadhouse wurde für uns zu diesem Ort.“ Um ihr Line-up zu erweitern, rekrutierten die fünf Mitglieder von The Paper Kites drei zusätzliche Musiker für ihre Roadhouse-Band, darunter den Multiinstrumentalisten Matt Dixon – der auf dem Track weinende Pedal-Steel-Elemente spielt – sowie Hannah Cameron und Chris Panousakis. Die Auftritte von „The Roadhouse“ wurden vom Kameramann Keiren Watson-Bonnice gefilmt und sollen mit den kommenden Singles veröffentlicht werden.

The song and production background began when the band created a roadhouse in rural Australia, performing an unannounced month-long residency in the small Victorian town of Campbells Creek, whilst working on their sixth record. The atmosphere of the live performance is recreated with pedal steel and crooning vocals and harmonies. The song lyrics reminisce of a romance still as alive as a blue flame. "We had talked about this for years" Sam Bentley explains, "We were drawn to the idea of holding up in a town somewhere and playing the evenings as a house band. The Roadhouse became this place for us." Expanding their line-up, the five members of The Paper Kites recruited three extra musicians to make up their roadhouse band, including multi-instrumentalist Matt Dixon - who's weeping pedal steel features on the track - as well as Hannah Cameron and Chris Panousakis. Performances from The Roadhouse were filmed by cinematographer Keiren Watson-Bonnice and are set to be released with the upcoming singles.
