El Viejo

„Ich wollte schon lange eine Platte wie diese machen. Die Band, Franny und ich haben es selbst in meinem Wohnzimmer produziert, ohne dass Erwachsene anwesend waren. Es ist alles akustisch, kein elektrischer Lick auf dem Album … Banjos und Mandos und Streichbässe und reduzierte Drums. Ich habe eine Menge Arbeit in die Melodien gesteckt und bin ziemlich stolz auf diese Sammlung. Ich hatte ein wenig Hilfe von meiner alten Co-Autorin-Freundin Jaida Dreyer bei einigen und habe auch ein gutes Drehbuch mit meinem Drehbuchautor-Kumpel Brian Koppelman geschrieben. Viele Gambling-Songs und viele Moll-Tonarten. Und meine Bandleute haben es auch absolut geschafft, sie sind alle knallhart. Ich widme die Platte meinem alten Kameraden Ian Tyson, der vor ein paar Monaten verstorben ist. Ich habe das Album auch nach ihm benannt. „El Viejo“ oder „der Alte“ nannte ihn unser gemeinsamer Freund Tom Russell in späteren Jahren. Der Titeltrack ist für uns etwas ganz Besonderes. Es hat uns viel Spaß gemacht, dieses Ding zu machen, und wir hoffen, dass es euch auch gefällt.“ - Corb Lund

“I’ve been wanting to make a record like this for a long time. The band, Franny and I produced it ourselves in my living room with no adults present. It’s all acoustic, not an electric lick on the album…banjos and mandos and string basses and stripped-down drums. I put a ton of work into the tunes and I’m pretty proud of this batch. Had a little help from my old co-writing pal Jaida Dreyer on a couple, also wrote a good one with my screenwriter buddy, Brian Koppelman. Lots of gambling songs and lots of minor keys. And my band guys absolutely killed it too, they’re all badasses. I’m dedicating the record to my old compadre, Ian Tyson, who passed away a few months back. I’ve named the album for him as well. ‘El Viejo’, or ‘the old one’ is what our mutual friend Tom Russell took to calling him in later years. The title track is a pretty special one for us.
